» The Brewery Tour
In November, 2002, I had the opportunity to revisit our friends at the Coopers Brewery. The occasion of our visit was the recent commissioning of the new Coopers Brewery. The occasion of our visit was the
recent commissioning of the new Coopers Brewery.
It was in 1862 that Thomas Cooper began making and selling beer
to his neighbors. At that time Thomas and his neighbors lived a
moderately rural existence on the outskirts of the city of Adelaide.
Much changed in the ensuing years, not the least of which is that
by the mid-1900’s the Coopers Brewery found itself smack dab
in the middle of the growing metropolis of Adelaide. A couple of
years ago Bill Cooper, his son Dr. Tim Cooper and his nephew Glenn
Cooper decided that it was just becoming too difficult to operate
a medium sized brewery in the middle of a major residential neighborhood
and made the painful decision to leave their brewery home of 140
years and move to the industrial district of Adelaide. In the Spring
of this year, their efforts came to fruition as the Coopers Brewery
opened a new state-of-the-art brewery in Regency Park, North Adelaide.
Please join us on a journey through the newest, most sophisticated
and environmentally responsible brewery/malt concentrate facility
in the world.
